RELEASE: LD17 Democratic Nominees John McLean And Kevin Volk Debut Broadcast Television Ads

With less than 50 days to go until Election Day, Volk and McLean hit the Southern Arizona airwaves with ads centered around abortion rights, bipartisanship.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Today, the Democratic nominees for Legislative District 17 John McLean and Kevin Volk debuted television broadcast ads in the Southern Arizona media market. With just seven weeks left until Election Day, the ads mark the first democratic legislative broadcast ads to air this cycle. LD17 is one of Arizona’s most competitive legislative districts and can decide the political makeup of the legislature next year. The last cycles have seen Democrats make inroads in this Pima County district, where legislative Republicans won by a narrow margin in the 2022 election.

The ads feature the candidates centering important issues like abortion and bipartisanship. In his debut television ad, John McLean shares how his family struggled to start a family and pledges to protect Arizonans’ reproductive rights. His opponent Vince Leach has tried to restrict abortion during his time at the legislature. The ad for Kevin Volk, a small business owner and former teacher, highlighted the rise of extreme partisanship and the need to work together to deliver results for Arizonans, something that the Republican incumbents, Cory McGarr and Rachel Jones, have failed to do.

“In just three short weeks, early voting begins in Arizona – this investment shows that Democrats are motivated and determined to end the Republican legislative majority, once and for all,” said Elsa O’Callaghan, Executive Director of the ADLCC. “Candidates like John McLean and Kevin Volk have the experience, ethical leadership, and determination to deliver real results for the constituents of LD17. As Election Day nears, we will continue to knock on doors, rally voters, and educate Arizonans about the importance of electing Democrats to the state capitol.”
