ICYMI: Extreme Anti-Abortion Group Endorses Battleground Republicans

Phoenix, Ariz. – Recently, the Center for Arizona Policy released its 2024 General Election endorsements, recognizing them for their anti-abortion stances

The Center for Arizona Policy opposes abortion and supported Arizona’s 1864 total abortion ban. They have previously opposed nondiscrimination ordinances protecting LGBTQ+ Arizonans. They also claim “marriage was devalued and attacked for decades by no-fault divorce.” In 2008, they wrote a resolution prohibiting gay marriage. In 2014, they wrote a bill legalizing discrimination against members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Republicans endorsed by the Center for Arizona Policy would continue to push this extreme anti-abortion, anti-LGTBQ agenda. Endorsed candidates include:

LD2:

  • Shawnna Bolick, Senate

  • Ari Bradshaw, House

  • Justin Wilmeth, House

LD4:

  • Carine Werner, Senate

  • Pamela Carter, House

  • Matt Gress, House

LD9:

  • Mary Ann Mendoza, House

LD23:

”Voters have made it clear that they will be supporting candidates this November who will protect access to abortion,” said ADLCC Executive Director Elsa O’Callaghan. “These endorsements show that Republican candidates are out of step with the voters of their districts, who believe in basic access to reproductive healthcare and protecting LGBTQ+ Arizonans.”

Arizona Democrats are just two seats in each chamber from taking control of the legislature for the first time in nearly 60 years. The Democrats running in these eight districts are strong supporters of reproductive health care and LGBTQ+ rights.
