BREAKING: Matt Gress Lies to Voters….Again!
Arizona — ICYMI, Matt Gress is the subject of an Arizona Agenda article about his latest lie to voters: taking credit for a Democrat’s bill in his latest ad.
In the Matt Gress ad, he takes credit for passing “Ava’s Law” but the bill that created “Ava’s Law” - 2025’s Senate Bill 1106 - was sponsored by Democratic Senator Catherine Miranda.
The article states that “Gress was a co-sponsor — but so were 24 other lawmakers from both parties, more than a quarter of the Legislature. Gress wasn’t on the House Judiciary Committee that approved the bill before it went on to pass by a 58-0 vote in the House and a 27-0 vote in the Senate.”
Notably, what the ad (titled “Gretchen’s Story”) doesn’t mention is that Gretchen is prominent Capitol lobbyist Gretchen Jacobs. She also declined to talk about the ad.
“Gretchen Jacobs is a mom and made a Herculean effort to get the bill passed after her daughter was sexually abused at Chaparral High School, as we wrote in our coverage of it at the beginning of the 2025 legislative session. It was a good bill that will help other families who don’t have the resources to fight for justice in the courts as she did. But it’s also true that Jacobs has been a prolific donor to Republican lawmakers’ campaigns. And that’s not a knock on Jacobs — it’s just something the Gress ad doesn’t portray.”
Arizona Agenda: Gress ad raises eyebrows
Gress was a co-sponsor — but so were 24 other lawmakers from both parties, more than a quarter of the Legislature.
Gress wasn’t on the House Judiciary Committee that approved the bill before it went on to pass by a 58-0 vote in the House and a 27-0 vote in the Senate.
Needless to say, the actual sponsor of that law was not pleased to see Gress taking credit for her work.
Senator Catherine Miranda: “I’m confused Matt. “Ava’s Law”is my legislation. You are actually using Ava for your campaign benefit? I protect kids and I’ll protect Ava from you!”
“LD 4 constituents are used to these kinds of lies and embellishments from Matt Gress,” said ADLCC Spokesperson Tommy Mattocks. “Voters are ready for November to reject the extremism and lies coming from Arizona Republicans and ready to elect folks who will get our state back on track.”
