AZGOP Pivots, Revealing Their Vulnerability Ahead of Tight Election Season
Republicans Pay Lip Service to Voters
Phoenix, AZ – Following a historic 2023 legislative session during which Governor Hobbs vetoed a record number of Republican extremist bills, Republicans are now reversing their legislative approach in a desperate scramble to maintain their stranglehold on democracy.
In a total reversal from the 2023 session, Senator Justine Wadsack told the Arizona Republic “There will probably not be really any controversial bills that I’m running this year.” Wadsack doubled down on her pivot on social media. Last year, Senator Wadsack ran some of the most extreme bills of the session, including a bill that would criminalize homelessness and a bill that would ban books like “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “The Color Purple.”
“Arizonans have felt the effects of Republican control for decades. Arizona has entered its eighth consecutive year of educator shortages in our classrooms. Families can see the rising cost of housing and groceries. Voters are too smart to fall for more Republican deception,” said Elsa O’Callaghan, Executive Director of the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “Republicans have neglected real issues in favor of partisan politics for decades.”
