Release: Nearly 24 Hrs After A Shooting In Arizona, AZGOP Remains Silent

Phoenix — A suspect is in custody after three people were shot Wednesday evening, May 20th, at Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, Arizona. Democratic state Sen. Martin Quezada witnessed the shooting and tweeted at 7:38 pm “I just witnessed an armed terrorist with an AR-15 shoot up Westgate. There are multiple victims.

As many in our community were shaken and worried about the safety of their loved ones near the shooting, Sen. Michelle Ugenti-Rita, and the AZGOP began tweeting at 8:38 pm their irrational fear of increasing access to voting by mail. Nearly 24 hrs later, Ugenti-Rita and The AZGOP remain silent to a tragedy in our very own community.

Arizona DLCC  and the Arizona Democratic Party released the following joint statement:

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the Westgate shooting in Glendale. We are grateful Sen. Quezada was unharmed and are thankful to the frontline responders for aiding victims and the Glendale Police for apprehending the shooter.”

It is shameful that the AZGOP has refused to acknowledge this tragedy and continues to use this time to promote anti-vote by mail propaganda. These tragedies are preventable, our state must be proactive in addressing gun violence and not wait for the next one to occur.”Phoenix — A suspect is in custody after three people were shot Wednesday evening, May 20th, at Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, Arizona.
