The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Opening Day of the first regular session of the 57th Legislature.

The first regular session of the 57th Legislature is officially underway.  With Republicans increasing their majority, they can introduce and pass their out-of-touch legislation while refusing to hear any Democratic Bills. Here is a weekly round-up of the good, the bad, and the ugly:

The Good:

On opening day this past week, Gov. Hobbs delivered her third State of the State address where she outlined her vision for Arizona. This included protecting reproductive freedom, Investing in public education & and bringing accountability to ESA voucher program, Securing Arizona's water future, lowering costs for Arizonas, and keeping Arizonans safe & securing the border.

The Bad:

With Republicans gaining more seats in both the House and Senate we can expect them to continue to push their extreme bills while refusing to hear any Democratic bills. Our members have already introduced bills that would help protect Arizona's water supply, protect access to contraceptives, and much more.

The Ugly:

In the first week of this session, we got a preview of the bad bills that Republicans will be pushing:

HB2022: would allow K-12 public and private schools to authorize employees to carry firearms on school grounds

HB2021: makes voting early more difficult, voter disenfranchisement

HB2062: sex-based terms; laws; rules; regulations

SB1011: Shorten the time to drop off your ballot, negatively impacting early voting
