Radical-Right Cheers the Death of Prop 208

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge John Hannah has dealt the final blow to Proposition 208 Invest in Education Act, a voter-approved measure that would have raised nearly a billion dollars in funding for our Arizona educators and students. Prop 208 leveraged a tax on wealthy Arizonans and was supported by the majority of Arizona voters in the November 2020 election.

“Our students deserve to thrive in well-funded classrooms that are not among the largest in the entire nation, and they should not suffer under our state’s dire teacher shortage. Public schools provide the foundation for the future of our state,” said Senator Christine Marsh.

Arizona schools have been underfunded for decades while the AZGOP continues the narrative that we need to cut our school budgets. A generation of children have missed out on educational opportunities because their schools couldn’t draw in qualified teachers with Arizona’s low teacher pay.

We want to thank everyone who fought for the passage of Prop 208. With a Democratic majority, we can ensure that the will of the people is enacted into law. The fight is not over.
