Release: Republican House Nominees Rachel Jones and Cory McGarr champion hate in LD17 Clean Elections Debate

Democratic House Nominee Dana Allmond denounces these extremist comments

PHOENIX, AZ – During last Wednesday’s Clean Elections Debate for Legislative District 17, Republican House Nominees Rachel Jones and Cory McGarr espoused hateful rhetoric about immigrants and stated their support for a near total ban on abortion. All of their positions were either based on unsubstantiated claims found on far-right conservative corners of the internet or out of step with the large majority of their constituency.

When asked a question on the current state of immigration in Arizona - Republican House Nominee Cory McGarr states that NGOs are participating in human trafficking at the U.S.–Mexico border. He also called for a near total ban on abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

In addition, Rachel Jones, who is running alongside Cory McGarr for the House repeated a crude and unfounded claim about migrants at the border, which was later debunked by Snopes.

“I was horrified to bear witness to the statements of my Republican opponents. As a Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, I fought for our nation’s freedoms, and that includes the freedom to choose if and when to start a family,” said one of the Democratic nominees for Legislative District 17 Dana Allmond. “I firmly denounce these statements and believe that the residents of Legislative District 17 deserve a representative that puts their values first. I’ve spent my life serving for the freedom of our nation, and I’ll continue to do that when elected.”
