Release: Slate of Democratic Write-in Candidates Positioned to Make the Ballot Against Radical Right-Wing Republicans

Brittani Barraza receives nearly double the necessary votes to challenge insurrectionist Anthony Kern

PHOENIX, AZ – Write-in state legislative candidates across the state of Arizona are well positioned to officially make the ballot, including State Senate candidate Brittani Barraza in Legislative District 27, who received nearly 900 votes in preliminary counts – which is 400 over the threshold to officially make the ballot.

Pending election certification, Barraza will appear on the ballot against former Representative Anthony Kern, a Trump-backed candidate, a speaker at “Stop the Steal” rallies, and a participant at the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

“This race is about ensuring that the people of Legislative District 27 are represented by someone who is going to fight for more accessible healthcare, affordable housing, and a better life for families like mine,” said Brittani Barraza, Democratic nominee for the State Senate in Legislative District 27. “My opponent says he puts America first but it’s time the people of my community are put first."

Other successful candidates that have received enough write-in votes to appear on the ballot pending certification from the Secretary of State include Alan Smith, running for State Senate against “fake elector” Jake Hoffman in Legislative District 15, Don Kissinger running in LD27 for State House and David Raymer running for State Senate in LD29.
