Release: Republican House Nominee Maria Syms’ History of Hyperpartisanship Continues As She Doubles Down on Extremism

Syms’ policy positions out of step with the voters in LD4

PHOENIX, AZ – Republican Nominee for State House Maria Syms has spent her campaign doubling down on extreme policies during her race to represent LD 4 and has put herself over her community and the needs of her constituents.

In her previous runs for public office, Republicans have spoken out against her candidacy. Her local party’s former chair wrote that “Syms would stab you in the back to get ahead, at the expense of her party and community.” As conspiracy theories around the 2020 election ran rampant, she fanned the flames by meeting with Rudy Giuliani.

Syms has opposed nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Arizonans. She supports unaccountable vouchers for private schools and received an F grade from the Arizona Education Association. This year, she has doubled down on opposing access to abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

“Maria Syms’ track record of putting her interests over those of her constituents and her extreme views on abortion, gun violence, and education show that she is unfit to represent the community in Legislative District 4,’ said ADLCC Press Secretary, Ashton Adams. “The voters have long been asking legislators to turn down the temperature and enact solutions to our biggest problems, and Laura Terech will do just that.”
