PRESS RELEASE: LD2 Democrats Stephanie Simacek and Rep. Judy Schwiebert Join Gen-Z Roundtable Alongside Keep Arizona Blue Student Coalition

Young Voters Mobilize For Democrats in Down Ballot Races

Phoenix - On Thursday, June 27th, Representative Judy Schwiebert and Deer Valley Unified School District Governing Board member Stephanie Simacek joined a Gen Z Roundtable hosted by the Keep Arizona Blue Student Coalition. Representative Schwiebert is a candidate for the Arizona State Senate and Stephanie Simacek is a candidate for the Arizona State House of Representatives.

During the roundtable, Representative Judy Schwiebert and Stephanie Simacek shared with nearly 20 young voters their plans for the future of Arizona. They also heard from young voters about the biggest issues most important to them including climate change, education, gun violence, and reproductive freedom.

”Listening to our voters and finding out the issues that are most important to them is a crucial part of our job as legislators,” said Representative Judy Schwiebert. “I have been proud to champion legislation that seeks to address the issues Gen Z cares about and give everyone their chance to thrive. However, we need a new legislature that will actually prioritize these issues.”

“As a mom of two members of Gen Z and a member of the Deer Valley School Board, I believe that listening to our young people about the issues they face is vital,” said Stephanie Simacek. “When I’m in the legislature, I will work to address the issues facing every member of our community.”

“Come every election year, young people look at their ballot and feel a certain distance between the candidates they are voting for and the issues affecting their rapidly-changing lives,” said Keep Arizona Blue Student Coalition Executive Director Jacob Marson. “Between entering college or trade school, and moving out of the home, young people want to feel heard. Student roundtables like this one are key to making young people feel confident that their elected leaders, Judy Schwiebert and Stephanie Simaceck, will be fighting for young people’s issues throughout the legislative session.”

“Local races and state legislatures have a huge impact on young people’s lives. This roundtable gave Judy Schwiebert and Stephanie Simaceck the chance to hear what matters most to young people in LD2 right now,” said Keep Arizona Blue Student Coalition Deputy Executive Director Francesca Martin. “Abortion rights are on the ballot this election cycle, and young people need elected officials in the legislature that ensure we do not have to worry about reproductive rights being taken away and represent our values.”
