RELEASE: Even after statewide rejection of conspiracy theory candidates, Republicans are still pushing election denialism in the legislature in Arizona

In marathon committee hearings, Republicans have stacked agendas with only Big Lie bills, voting to purge rolls every 10 years

PHOENIX, AZ – This Arizona legislative session, there has been no shortage of election conspiracy bills being introduced and heard. These bills, introduced exclusively by Republicans, aim to undermine confidence in our election systems and disenfranchise voters throughout Arizona. Republican legislators moved the following bills this week:

  •  SB1566: Will cancel your voter registration without your input, regardless of your voting record, and force you to go through administrative hurdles to reregister.

    • Sponsored by Sen. Frank Carroll and co-sponsored by Sen. Steve Kaiser (LD2)

  • SCR1015: Would be an extreme threat to direct democracy, and restrict Arizona’s initiative and referendum process.

    • Sponsored by J.D. Mesnard (LD13)

“Every statewide candidate in 2022 who questioned the integrity of our election system and the good people who serve as election officials, lost their election,” said Ashton Adams, Communications Director at the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “Even as we move further and further away from the 2020 election, the conspiracy theories pushed by the GOP rage on in Arizona. The GOP is fundamentally unserious about governing, and the power must shift at the state capitol for the sake of every Arizonan.”
