Release: Against Wave of Anti-Democracy Candidates – Arizona Legislative Democrats Hold the Line in the AZ Senate

Results in Key House Race Still to Be Determined

PHOENIX, AZ – Against the backdrop of an unfavorable redistricting map for legislative Democrats and a record number of election deniers nominated by the Republican party, a broad coalition of voters in Arizona mobilized for Democratic nominees to hold the line for the Democratic caucus in the Senate. The Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee held all incumbent seats in key battleground districts and is patiently waiting on results out of Legislative District 16, where Keith Seaman holds a narrow lead, to determine the results of a key pick-up for House Democrats.

The Arizona Legislative Democratic Campaign Committee’s wins in target districts include:

  • Representative Judy Schwiebert, AZ House LD2

  • Representative-Elect Laura Terech, AZ House LD4

  • Senator Christine Marsh, AZ Senate LD4

  • Representative-Elect Lorena Austin, AZ House LD9

  • Representative-Elect Seth Blattman, AZ House LD9

  • Senator-Elect Eva Burch, AZ Senate LD9

  • Representative Jennifer Pawlik, AZ House LD1

“Grassroots organizing power has propelled our Democratic legislative caucus from a super minority in 2012, to a near tie in 2022. The decades-long commitment of Arizona organizers and fierce ground game of candidates like Lorena Austin, Sen. Christine Marsh, Representative Jennifer Pawlik, and more are what has resulted in continual success for legislative Democrats,” said Elsa O’Callaghan, Executive Director of the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “This year was no different. Our candidates took up the challenge of running for office in a year when the political climate for Democrats was at its most challenging. In that climate, and among all the chatter, they held the line for progress.”
