State of the State

In his final State of the State, Governor Doug Ducey spent much of his speech taking credit for the over $12 billion President Biden and congressional Democrats have brought to our state in COVID relief funds. Meanwhile, he forgot to mention the 24,986 [1] Arizonans who have died from COVID, the lack of resources in hospitals across the state to care for COVID patients, and the statewide teacher shortage caused by the pandemic.

Leader, Sen. Rebecca Rios, shared, “Governor Doug Ducey’s legacy will be that of leaving Arizonans to fight a deadly pandemic on their own, while hoarding needed funds that could’ve saved lives, businesses and protected our children.”

Leader, Rep. Reginald Bolding, added, “What stands in our way is a governor who has lost interest in the pandemic, plus a far-right Legislature that roots for failure by slashing social safety nets and opposing democracy."

Governor Ducey’s last State of the State was a clear reminder why we must deliver Democratic majorities. We do not need more Republican talking points: we need to help working families and small businesses to get out of this pandemic.
