Early Voting Begins in Arizona – and the Path to Flip the State Legislature Lies in Eight Key Districts
Democrats have broken fundraising records, knocked on thousands of doors, and locked in ad buys in an effort to regain a Democratic majority
ARIZONA – As Arizonans head to the polls to cast their ballot for the November General election, Democrats are highlighting the importance of key legislative races across the state. In less than 10 years, the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (ADLCC) has broken the Republican supermajority in the state legislature. Every year since its founding, we have picked up seats and held the line against Republican incumbents who continue to radicalize.
In 2022, Democrats held the line in the State House and State Senate. Democrats are now only two seats away in each legislative chamber from achieving a majority for the first time in nearly 60 years. The pathway to a Democratic trifecta lies in eight key legislative districts:
LD 2: North Phoenix, Deer Valley, Sunnyslope, and Moon Valley
LD 4: Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Paradise Valley
LD 9: West Mesa and Tempe
LD 13: Chandler, Sun Lakes and Gilbert
LD 16: Coolidge, Casa Grande, and Maricopa City
LD 17: Oro Valley and Marana
LD 23: Yuma, Goodyear, Somerton, and San Luis
LD 27: Glendale, Peoria, and West Phoenix
For the first time since the organization’s founding, the ADLCC is running candidates in all 30 legislative districts. By setting the groundwork and building power in rural and ruby red districts, Democrats can flip seats in traditionally held Republican territory and build enthusiasm for candidates up and down the ballot.
“This November, Democrats are ready to deliver for Arizonans and provide them with determined and level-headed leadership – something that is currently missing from the Republican majority,” said ADLCC Chair Senator Priya Sundareshan. “As Arizonans exercise their fundamental right to vote, we encourage voters to learn about their local representatives and reject the Republican brand of extremism that has resulted in attacks on reproductive freedoms, underfunded schools, and a failure to address our housing crisis. We encourage folks to vote early – starting today! – and elect leaders who will address these issues on Day One.”
