Disastrous Anti-Choice and Anti-Health Care Bill SB1457 Headed to Gov. Doug Ducey’s desk

PHOENIX — The following statement can be attributed to Liz Luna, Executive Director of the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (ADLCC).

“As we await Governor Doug Ducey’s decision to veto or sign SB1457, the most extreme bill on abortion rights we’ve seen in decades, let this serve as a reminder as to why protecting Arizona’s democracy is so important. SB1457 is a disastrous anti-choice and anti-health care bill that Governor Ducey should not sign into law. 

“It is absolutely shameful that Arizona Republicans continue to believe that pregnant women should be criminalized for deciding what they want to do with their own bodies. 

“This destructive legislation threatens to incarcerate doctors for providing health care for thousands of Arizona residents and is an all out attack on women’s rights. 

“Furthermore, this dangerous bill would also traumatize, shame, and put the health of people seeking abortions at risk, when every single person should have access to safe, secure, and affordable reproductive health care without government interference. 

“The ADLCC and our partners will continue to advocate for #HandsOffAZ in order to protect the health of Arizonans. Doctors and healthcare organizations such as the Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Arizona Academy of Family Physicians, Arizona Public Health Association, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and more, are against this bill. We’re calling on Gov. Doug Ducey to VETO SB1457.
