PRESS RELEASE: Candidate with Deep Ties to the Plot to Overturn The 2020 Election Has Been Selected to Join the Legislature

Former Rep. and Close Friend of Ginni and Clarence Thomas, Shawnna Bolick will serve out Steve Kaiser’s term in the legislature

Today – the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has selected former State Representative and Secretary of State candidate Shawnna Bolick to replace Steve Kaiser after he resigned his Senate seat in Legislative District 2.

Former Representative Shawnna Bolick has a well-documented history of extremism both in the legislature and as an advocate to overturn the 2020 election. As a legislator, she introduced a bill to silence voters in presidential elections and allow state legislators to appoint the  sole electors from Arizona of their choosing. Bolick and her family are longtime family friends of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas – who has recently been accused of egregious ethical violations and has moved the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and remove civil rights protections for LGBTQ Americans. Justice Thomas’ wife Ginni Thomas, personally e-mailed Bolick during her time as a legislator, asking her to intervene in the electoral process in favor of former President Trump.

“Shawnna Bolick has a long history in Arizona of pushing baseless conspiracy theories about our elections. Her record of aiming to overturn the will of the voters and undermining our democracy is demonstrative of how she fails to truly listen to Arizonans at the ballot box. We expect that in 2024 voters will choose to elect a Senator that is working to ensure all Arizonans have the opportunity to thrive over a candidate in a shameless pursuit of power,” said Elsa O’Callaghan, Executive Director of the ADLCC.
