It Is Time to Repeal the 1980 School Spending Cap

Yesterday, all Senate Democrats along with nine Senate Republicans passed HCR2039, a one-time compromise that authorizes public schools to spend the remaining $1,154,028,997 budgeted for the year and avoid an economic crisis.

Arizona parents and students deserve a state legislature that delivers long-term budgetary certainty to our public schools. Can you chip in $10 today to elect Democrats that will repeal the AEL?

It is time to repeal the 1980 school spending cap, or the Aggregate Expenditure Limit (AEL). The AZGOP argues that we are exceeding this limit because we appropriate so much money to public schools, but yet we continue to be 48, 49, or 50th in every public education funding category.

Two public school teachers, Sen. Christine Marsh and Rep. Jennifer Pawlik have introduced full repeals (SB1523 & HCR 2036) of this antiquated law to ensure we never have to vote on authorizing money that has already been budgeted.

It is time that we flip the legislature to ensure we have a government that will work to solve the education crisis in Arizona. Can you chip in $10 today?

Democrats are unified in their support of repealing the AEL and are fighting for fully-funded public schools because Arizona students deserve a legislature that invests in their future.
