Candidates

All Democratic candidates have been invited to participate. If you are not represented here, please email crodriguez@azdem.org

  • Sen. Lela Alston (LD-5)

For the past 14 years I have represented Central Phoenix in the Arizona Legislature, eight years in the House and in my sixth year in the Senate. It would be my honor to continue to serve as the Arizona State Senator for LD 5.

Throughout my career as a lawmaker, I have championed our public schools and universities, advocated on behalf of our most vulnerable communities, and worked to find common ground with my colleagues and pragmatic solutions to the challenges confronting our state.

Accessible and quality public education that prepares Arizona’s young people for 21st Century careers, improving the lives of children and families, working in support of housing for the homeless and low-income families, and defending the civil and reproductive rights for all Arizonans will continue to be my priorities, should I be re-elected to represent LD 5 in the Arizona State Senate.

A native Arizonan and the proud product of our public school system, from kindergarten to graduate school, I believe in creating communities that people can thrive in and feel safe. This is what motivates me to continue working for the people of our great state as LD 5s State Senator.

  • Rep. Charles Lucking (LD-5)

I'm a fifth-generation Arizonan raised right here in our community. I am driven to find solutions for Arizona because it is my home, my parents' home, my children's home, and the home of my community. We are a family of Public School students. We are a family of artists, musicians, makers, readers and travelers. I love taking my kids hiking in Arizona’s wild places, and it's important to me that they and their kids, and your kids, will be able to do the same.

I am here for real, long-term solutions for ALL Arizonans, regardless of who you are, where you come from, what you believe and who your personal community is. We are a big neighborhood of small communities, and the work we collectively do builds the Arizona that our grandkids will call home. I’m putting shovel to dirt to make sure that their Arizona is a great one.

  • Rep. Oscar De Los Santos (LD-11)

Oscar De Los Santos serves as the Representative for District 11 in the Arizona House of Representatives.

Born to working-class immigrant parents, Oscar has dedicated his life and career to public service and progressive values.

As a teacher at a low-income school in South Phoenix, he's been on the frontlines of the fight for better-funded schools and better teacher pay.

As head of public policy at the Association of Arizona Food Banks, he represented Arizona's 1,200 food banks and food pantries in the Arizona Legislature and in Congress. He fought for state laws that promote economic justice—and won. Working in partnership with local community groups, the legislature, and the governor, he successfully led the fight to pass a bill that doubled the state’s cash assistance program for low-income families. He also spearheaded a coalition that passed legislation to restore access to food assistance programs for people with felony records.

Oscar has been recognized locally and internationally for his leadership. He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, earned a master of public policy at the University of Oxford, and was invited by the White House to a private meeting with President Obama.

Elected to the House in 2022, Oscar serves as the Assistant Democratic Leader in the House, the second-highest ranking Democrat in the chamber. In the House, he has been a tireless advocate for workers rights, protecting voting rights, taking on corporate corruption, ensuring educators are paid fair wages, and for equality for all Arizonans.

Now, Oscar is running for re-election to continue representing LD 11 in the Arizona House of Representatives.

  • Sen. Sundareshan (LD-18)

Born and raised in this district, I love Tucson and the opportunities I had for an excellent public education and exploring the outdoors.

Until recently, I taught natural resources law at the University of Arizona, and previously advocated for sustainable resource management with the Environmental Defense Fund.

As a voting rights advocate, I have led voter protection efforts and engagement on redistricting within the Arizona Democratic Party. Having studied engineering at MIT and law and natural resource economics at the U of A, I know we need more science-based decision-making in politics, especially when it comes to preserving our beautiful state for future generations.

As a mother of two small children, I want my children and all children to inherit a sustainable world and a sustainable Arizona.

  • Sen. Rosanna Gabaldón (LD-21)

First elected to the State Senate LD 2 in 2020, Rosanna is currently serving a second term at the Senate (after redistricting) for LD 21 in 2022. She completed four terms (8-years) in the Arizona State House of Representatives for LD 2.

During her years at the legislature and serving on numerous committees, including serving as the ranking member and participating in leadership in 2023, she understands critical infrastructure matters. She has taken the lead on numerous bills related to public safety, the environment, and public education. Her voting record is a testament to her commitment to public service. She is an advocate for public education and a champion for economic development, roads, and infrastructure.

  • Sen. Eva Diaz (LD-22)

My name is Dr. Eva Diaz. I have served in the Arizona State Senate since 2022. I am a Democrat who is a tireless fighter for families in our community. I am a lifelong educator and prioritize effective public education, quality, affordable healthcare, and working families.

While in the Senate, I have worked to champion women’s rights and minority rights.

I am now running for re-election to continue the work. We need a candidate who has integrity and respects democracy. I am committed to being just that.

  • Rep. Analise Ortiz (LD-24)

Rep. Analise Ortiz lives in Maryvale and represents West Phoenix and South Glendale in the Arizona House of Representatives. Ortiz is a native Arizonan, a small business owner, and a former journalist and civil rights activist.

As our representative, Ortiz doubled investments into affordable housing and homelessness. She played a key role in repealing the 1864 total abortion ban by calling out Republican’s inaction on the House Floor. Ortiz's experience in the Legislature and her record of taking action for our community make her the best choice for State Senate District 24. She will continue working to make housing more affordable, invest in public schools, and strengthen civil rights.
