Phoenix – Republicans have again passed an expansion of ESA in Arizona with the backing of Senators Sylvia Allen and Kate Brophy McGee. SB1224 is another expansion of Empowerment Scholarships against the overwhelming opposition to vouchers by Arizonans.
“This is clearly an attempt by the GOP to once again expand the ESA program in Arizona, by using a handful of students as a political football to score another win for private school education,” said Murphy Bannerman, Arizona DLCC Communications Director
In 2018, Arizonans overwhelmingly voted to repeal the expansion of vouchers by rejecting Proposition 305. Senators Allen and McGee claim this is not another expansion of vouchers, yet this bill will allow taxpayer dollars to fund the education of students attending schools outside of Arizona.
