Last Week SCR1034, the “Republican #Powergrab” Sponsored by Sen. Yarbrough, passed the Senate on a party-line vote. While several of our Democratic Caucus members gave strong speeches as to why this legislation is unnecessary and severs to empower politicians, not voters; several Republican Caucus members spoke on the Senate floor as to how the Democrats “hijacked” the Independent Redistricting Committee during the last drawing of the districts. Sen. Bowie immediately rebutted that response by stating, “if that was a hijacking, then it is the worst hijacking I’ve ever seen in my life!”
The Republican Caucus may think they got a bad deal the last redistricting go around; however, they are still the MAJORITY party in the House, Senate, and Governors Office.
Further Sen. Allen made statements that there are too many Democrats in some of the district and Republicans have been begging her to do something about the IRC so they can run a Republican candidate. Sen. Allen along with many members of the Republican caucus are feeling a #bluewave coming this November and are desperate to manipulate their districts so that Republicans have the upper hand in the 2020 elections.
The good news is we can and will STOP them!
