Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas offered a plan to give Arizona schools $400 million a for teacher pay, according to the Arizona Capitol Times.
Douglas’ plan calls for a special session of the Arizona Legislature to appropriate an immediate $400 million.
Arizona House Democratic Leader Rep. Dr. Eric Meyer said what Douglas wants is far superior to what Gov. Ducey and Republican leaders in the legislature have proposed.
“She’s questioned the governor’s plan as not a fix but more of a gimmick, and not a solution to the challenges and the crisis, quite frankly, in our education system in Arizona,” he told the Arizona Daily Star.
